I believe that Undertale is a story about the Underground and so it takes is through the Underground, while Deltarune is a story about the red Soul, and so it takes us through the red Soul's existence and its quest to seal the fountains. I also think that there is no distinction between Frisk and the red Soul - please note that unlike Kris, Frisks never shows displeasure, or any kind of reaction at all to any of the Soul's actions. I think that the red Soul could be a character itself and that the red Soul in Undertale and the red Soul in Deltarune are one and the same. Or you could always chalk it up to a third entity having a level of control over Kris, which is totally possible (especially with THAT Seam line) but I doubt that's what's going on. After all, Kris DID seem to fear the dark fountains, judging by how much information of the threat of dark fountains they gave Undyne of their own accord. That being said, I do think they do not approve of our actions in Snowgrave.Īs for the parts where they rid themselves of the SOUL, like you (and OP in another reply), I think it has ulterior motives, but I think Kris took it out because they would not be able to communicate their plan to the SOUL, and as such remove it to do something that seems completely evil, like summoning a dark fountain, when there's some "well-intentioned, but still dangerous/selfish" motive. For example, after the Spamton NEO fight, it's often read that Kris is distressed because they feel like a puppet, but I think they are distressed because Spamton is the first one to acknowledge their SOUL (aside from Ralsei) and try to take it. I feel the same, I get why people think that Kris is actively opposing our control, but these can be easily read in a different way.
